Breathing new life into Wiltshire home

This prestigious spot in beautiful Bradford-on-Avon boasts incredible panoramic views of the Wiltshire countryside - yet the stunning transformation of a formerly fire-damaged property brought with it sizeable logistical challenges.

Craft Renovations, working in close partnership with Klas Hyllén Architecture, successfully delivered a first-class internal and external restoration, grounded in ecologically-sound building materials.

Bradford on Avon restoration

An ambitious brief saw three terraced houses converted into one incredible property, with the aim of sensitively restoring the existing two terraces using breathable, eco-friendly building materials, whilst simultaneously adding a modern extension into the gap - clad in iconic Bath Stone - that would preserve the conservation of the property.

Our client, a world-renowned classical violinist, sought a rural getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life, and a design approach that would accentuate the distinctive features of the property whilst maximising its footprint and available internal space to boost its overall flexibility as a home.

Raw steel staircase

Craft Renovations’ experienced team approached this project with great creativity and enthusiasm, overcoming incredibly challenging site access difficulties to ensure that this stunning project was delivered to an exceptional finish.

The centrepiece of the home is a powerful, one-of-a-kind staircase, engineered from raw steel and sealed with a beeswax finish. As well as being an incredible aesthetic touch, the staircase also enables the three terraced houses to be seamlessly navigated in-between, creating a spectacular link that powerfully merges the three adjoining properties into one highly-impressive home.

Panoramic views of Bradford-on-Avon

Expertly-delivered temporary engineering works supported the five-metre vertical bank that this project was built into; this ultimately became a converted wine cellar turned office, further enhancing the property’s long-term usage, appeal and value and increasing the footprint of the home by 25%.

Finished with a natural Spanish slate roof and a polished concrete floor with under-floor heating, the end result, both inside and out, is awe-inspiring in its own right whilst also blending sublimely into the historic landscape setting that makes Bradford-on-Avon such a sought-after and beloved location.
