A riotously inventive restaurant interior design

When the Craft Renovations team started work, the site of this Middle East-Caribbean fusion restaurant was a shell. Now it’s packed with original features and interesting, unconventional details, featuring unusual eating areas and a fully equipped, state of the art kitchen – a complete design and build project for us.

The restaurant is situated in Wapping Wharf, in the heart of a buzzing area of the Bristol docks. It had to stand out amid an array of cafes, and its owners were determined to avoid a muted, minimal modern interior. As far as they’re concerned, their food is about loud, vibrant flavours, and they wanted the restaurant interior to reflect that.

Among the features is a shipping container that had to be deconstructed in order to fit through the entrance, and then rebuilt inside. Oil drums were used to create interesting focal lighting, and part of a wall was built from them too. A concrete wall displays a logo that was acid-etched into the concrete, and we commissioned murals from a local graffiti artist.

OSB (oriented strand board) was exposed to produce an interesting, unrefined effect, sheets of corrugated zinc used to cover the lower walls, and zinc panels hammered down to create a service counter. Inside, customers sit at old school tables, and in the outside space old mill carts have been turned into tables that can be wheeled in and out.
